Bell 47 D1/G
Bell 47 N74081 started life as an
H-13-D only 87 were produced. In 1963 the helicopter was purchased by Allied
Helicopter of Texas and they converted it to a D1. It was in used until the 1990’s when it came up for its 1200 hour overhaul. It was purchased by Atlanta Helicopter and sat in the hanger
until I purchased it in 2007. It does have its Data Plate and I have ALL of the
converted the D1 to G model, below is some of what was done during the overhaul.
All components were overhauled per Bell’s Maintenance and Overhaul
helicopter was completely taken apart and all new hardware was used when the
helicopter was re-assembled.
cabin section and tail section were inspected. All inspection holes were removed
checking for corrosion and welds were also inspected. The sections were primed
with an acid primer and then painted using PTI two part Polyurethane
the fight controls were taken apart re-painted and all bearings were replaced.
Control tubes were dis-assembled and inspected for corrosion, re-riveted and
new rod ends were installed.
Rotor gearbox was overhauled with new bearings and seals. The tail rotor blade
hub was overhauled with new bearings and seals and T/R Blades were balanced and
drive system, all new bearings were installed and have NEW Half-Shafts and
control cables were replaced.
FRANKLIN 210 HP The engine was dis-assembled
and cleaned. The Heads, this including the sleeve, valves, springs, rocker arm
were overhauled by Bruce Known. Bruce also balanced the pistons. New cam, main
and connecting rod bearings were replaced along with new oil pump gears and
relief valve and spring.
Overhauled Bendix Magnetos, new wires and spark plugs.
new gaskets and hardware were used during the re-assembly.
was dis-assembled, cleaned along with the generator drive, T/R drive, and Fan
drive. All new bearings along with seals were installed. In the transmission
new spiders, rollers springs were installed. Overhauled the freewheeling unit, installed
new clutch shoes and a new clutch drum. All new hardware was used on the
engine to transmission gasket was installed along with the oil jet at the end
of the crankshaft. New hardware was used when mating the too together.
dis-assembled and cleaned, all new bearing and seals were installed; mast was
checked for corrosion and straightness.
Grips were Eddy Current inspected as per the AD.
fuel tanks were dipped to clean them out, new fuel sending units were installed
all new fuel line and the carburetor was overhauled at the same time AD was
complied with for the fuel float. All
new fuel drain lines were installed.
instruments were inspected and the helicopter was completely re-wired, new cannon
plugs were used. Along with new power
relays and circuit breakers. Altimeter needs inspecting the adjustment knob is
have replaced the generator with a Skytronics Alternator.
have installed an electric starter with a key switch. Removed the old foot
an Intercom along with headphones.
have run the helicopter with all components installed except the main rotor
blades. I run it every few weeks. In the
winter I install dehydrator plugs.
THAT NEED COMPLETING
have a 0 time overhauled set of Main Rotor blades. The blades need to be
aligned and tracked. I have the jigs to do this job and they are included along
with all the other Bell 47 tools.
have rigged the control system, but will need fine adjusting.
all of the paper work is completed except for the AD Compliance sheet (Needs
Updating) and an AD 98-07-09 on the Stabilizer Bar Damper Link rod ends.
Special washers are need to complete, available from Scott’s Helicopter for
project is 98% complete, if you prefer to change it back to a D1 I will set you
up with the person that can supply the fuel tank and the mounting brackets.
I have tons of

to view. This has been a labor of love for the last 4 years, but other
